Swiss luxury watchmaker Oris has announced the release of a limited edition timepiece created in partnership with the Reef Restoration Foundation (RRF), an Australian non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef.
The exclusive 2,000-piece watch, called the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV, is based on the next-generation Aquis and marks the first limited-edition Aquis Date 43.50 mm to feature the Calibre 400, Oris’ groundbreaking five-day automatic movement.
Established in 2016, the RRF has been at the forefront of coral planting initiatives to mitigate the impact of warming oceans and coral bleaching on the world’s largest and most diverse reef system.
Oris first partnered with RRF in 2018 on their mission to bring ‘Change for the Better’.
“Oris is climate-neutral and committed to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said Co-CEO Rolf Studer.
“Supporting the Reef Restoration Foundation is a joy and we’re delighted to shine a light on their work to counter the effects of climate change on the world’s reefs.”
Climate change has had a devastating impact on the world’s coral reefs. According to the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), 73 per cent of surveyed reefs in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park exhibit prevalent bleaching.
In March, the Great Barrier Reef experienced its fifth mass bleaching event, where elevated water temperatures caused coral to expel the algae living in its tissues, turning it white and leading to potential death if conditions persist
Coral reefs, although they cover less than one per cent of the ocean, are home to nearly a quarter of all ocean species. These species are crucial for maintaining the health of our oceans, which produce 70 per cent of the world’s oxygen.
Reefs also contribute trillions of dollars annually to the global economy. Their survival is vital for the health of our planet

The Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV
This is the first watch created by Oris with a gradient dial, with the gradient falling from 12 o’clock, rather than emanating from the dial centre. This has the combined effect of mimicking the turquoise and blue waters of the Great Barrier Reef from the air and also the refraction of the sun’s rays through water.
The Aquis’s quality signifiers remain: a uni-directional rotating bezel with a grey tungsten insert; a screw-down crown with protection; Super-LumiNova detailing (including a lumed lollipop seconds hand); Oris-patented strap change and quick adjustment systems and water resistance to 30 bar (300 metres).
