A tribute to the pioneering achievements of the company’s early years, the Montblanc Heritage Collection reinterprets its historic writing instruments, adapted to today’s standards by craftsmanship refined over generations.
When the ‘Rouge et Noir’ was first introduced, it ushered in a triumphant new era of fountain pen technology. Revolutionizing the world of writing culture with its ease of use and leak-proof construction, it became possible to travel anywhere with this innovative fountain pen. The smallest version, the Baby design, was a popular notebook companion that could fit into any pocket. The new Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir Baby Special Edition brings back some of the smallest pens of that era with an evolved design and contemporary cartridge technology.
At only 10 cm long, the Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir Baby Special Edition unites historical design and high standards of production. Slim and elegant, the shape is inspired by the classical Rouge & Noir silhouette. Reminiscent of the red cap tops of early Montblanc Rouge et Noir writing instruments, the new interpretation is crowned with an ivory-coloured Montblanc emblem surrounded by red-coloured precious resin. The collection is available in black lacquer with platinum-coated fittings as well as in ivory-coloured lacquer with signature gold-coated fittings.
The “Baby” fountain pens were introduced at a time when ballpoint pens and rollerballs didn’t exist. They were therefore one of the best options for attaching a writing instrument to a notebook or carrying in a small handbag for those who didn’t want to resort to using a simple pencil. Bold despite its size, the Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir Baby Special Edition comes without a clip and its minimalistic appearance creates a great impression.
The collection is equipped with a handcrafted Au 585 solid gold heritage nib adorned with the emblematic number “4810”, the altitude of the Mont Blanc summit, as well as a drawing of the Mont Blanc taken from an early Montblanc logo. A ballpoint and rollerball complete the collection.
“Evoking the cosmopolitan flair of the 1920s, when travel took off on a grand scale with more people than ever before exploring the world by train, plane, ship and car, innovative conveniences such as Montblanc portable pens were de rigueur. By introducing a new interpretation of this historic writing instrument with all the modern advancements, Montblanc celebrates an even deeper passion for travel and mobility today,” says Alessandra Elia, Montblanc Managing Director – Writing Culture.
When the original “Baby” fountain pens were first available, small-sized leather pouches, “Baby” travel ink bottles and tiny notebooks were part of the Montblanc collection. A return to this tradition, the new Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir Baby can be paired with one of the matching accessories including a Calfskin leather with digital embossing of a historical mountain motif or a black or coral-coloured calfskin leather Meisterstück Selection Pen Pouch.
Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir Baby Special Edition is available from August 2022 from Montblanc boutiques worldwide and online.
