Join Montblanc as it breaks barriers at the Only Watch 2023 auction with an exceptional timepiece. Discover the thrill of bidding and the excitement of breaking the ice to reveal a one-of-a-kind creation.
Montblanc is set to dazzle at the exclusive Only Watch 2023 auction with its extraordinary timepiece. The Montblanc Only Watch 2023 timepiece is a one-of-a-kind 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen creation that demands both a bid and the use of an ice pick to reveal its hidden treasure.
The centrepiece of this remarkable timepiece is the revolutionary new CARBO2 middle case material that has captured CO2 inside. Combining CO2 captured from biogas production and mineral wastes, with ultra-light and -resistant carbon fibre, Montblanc has created a visually stunning material that has a unique graphic aesthetic, with its dark shades resulting from the specific blend of carbon fibre and CO2. This cutting-edge composite material perfectly complements the adventurous spirit of the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen, opening new avenues of exploration.
The 43.5mm case features a luminous glacier blue outline of Mount Everest on the side, visible only to the wearer. By day, the case band shines white, while at night, it radiates a captivating blue luminescence. The titanium case back showcases a breathtaking 3D laser depiction of Mount Everest, capturing its colour, depth and realism. The timepiece pays tribute to bold alpinists by marking the 13 other highest peaks of the world in colour.
The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen Only Watch 2023 is an exclusive creation that is part of the maison’s series of ‘Zero Oxygen’ timepieces and will set the stage for a new collection to be unveiled in April 2024. By eliminating oxygen within the case, this exceptional watch offers several benefits for explorers venturing into harsh environments. It prevents fogging caused by extreme temperature changes at high altitudes and protects against oxidization. Each Zero Oxygen timepiece comes with a certificate, confirming its airtight encasement and showcasing the exceptional, yet invisible, technology within.
The watch is powered by the MB 29.25 automatic movement, featuring Montblanc’s Manufacture worldtime complication, which includes turning Northern and Southern Hemisphere globes, a 24-hour scale, day and night indications, dual time display and a date. It also boasts a fluted bi-directional black ceramic bezel, adorned with compass cardinal points and the initials ‘OW’ for ‘Only Watch’ depicting West. Its electric blue glacier pattern dial and colourful worldtime meridians, in keeping with Only Watch’s 2023 rainbow colour theme, along with a black interchangeable textile strap crafted from 100% recycled PET, completes the ensemble.
In a remarkable gesture, the fortunate bidder of this extraordinary watch will also receive an ice pick donated by Montblanc’s Mark Maker, Nimsdai Purja, the record-breaking alpinist. Alongside the timepiece, Nimsdai’s ice pick and a handwritten note about his vision of the world in 100 years have been encased in a zero-oxygen ice-like capsule. The future owner can choose to break the capsule using the ice pick or pass on this decision onto the next generation.
The Only Watch charity auction, celebrating its 10th edition, has raised more than USD111 million (approximately) to support researchers in their quest to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Montblanc is honoured to be part of this important journey and hopes this year’s timepiece brings as much joy to its future owner as it did to the skilled team who created it.
As the gavel falls, the captivating Montblanc Only Watch 2023 timepiece beckons. Who will be the lucky owner to unlock its frozen secrets and own a truly remarkable work of art? Only time will tell!
